My life up until now
October 25th, 2006Well in short, I have always loved cooking, food and probably most of all eating (hence the constant yo-yoing waistline ). My parents are both good cooks and probably sparked my interest, but most of all once in a while allowed me to make a hell of a mess in the kitchen while creating some absolutely disgusting combinations of ingredients and made the appropriate yummy noises on cue.
I have always thought that you need to make a lot of mistakes with cooking to perfect your art, and boy have there been a lot of mistakes. Things like runny pavlova and scrambling eggs while trying to add them to warm chocolate spring to mind.
You may think that having such an obsession with food, I would have gone into some sort of food related job, but you’d be wrong. I was born in Northern Ireland (’what about ya’ to the Norn Iron massive) but trained in Coventry to be a physiotherapist of all things, which is what I am doing now 6 years later, after leaving Bangor, N.I. at the tender age of 18 (yes, that makes me nearly ‘ahem’ 25, I’m starting to get tetchy about it already).
I do hope, eventually, to get into doing something ‘foodie’ soon and possibly make a living out of it. I often bring cakes into work for people’s leaving do’s and such like (any old excuse really, people in the health sector, especially physios are like vultures when anything sweet enters the staff room) and someone asked if I would like to do her sister’s wedding cake. I thought that was a nice idea, but I haven’t really got any experience with cake decoration other than smearing on icing in a rather messy fashion. So I thought I would sign up for a course. There are a few courses in Coventry but all are very popular so it’s first come first served. I think a mass cull of all the middle aged, middle class women in Coventry might do it.
When I’m not aspiring to be a cake decorator extrodinare, I am usually watching some food programme (much to my boyfriend’s annoyance, God I love cable), thumbing through one of the five food magazines I buy monthly (I really should subscribe) or stroking my little ginger cat (nothing to do with food really but I thought I’d put her in ’cause she’s a bit of an exhibitionist).
So now you know a bit about me and more than you needed to know about my cat. I intend to try and update the blog a couple of times a week, but i wouldn’t hold your breath, blue really isn’t your colour.
